About AI Exposure Check

We help ordinary people and small businesses understand which AI tools can see or control their computers and phones, in plain English. That's the short version. The long version involves a family laptop, so bear with me.

Picture the scene, because it plays out in homes all over the country. Someone gets asked to "just have a quick look" at the family laptop. One quick look turns into an hour of scrolling through settings, and they find an AI assistant that can read the screen, a browser add-on nobody remembers installing, and a remote control app (a program that lets someone else use your computer from far away) left over from a phone call with "the bank" that, it turns out, wasn't the bank at all.

None of it is hidden, exactly. It's all sitting right there in the settings. It's just that nobody ever sits down and explains what any of it means. So I thought, well, someone ought to. And here we are.

How we keep it private

Everything is worked out inside your own browser. We have no accounts and no database, mostly because I think the safest data is the data you never collect in the first place, and partly, if I'm honest, because I'd be rubbish at looking after a database. The scanner is open source, so anyone can read exactly what it does, line by line, and tell me off if I've got something wrong.

Where the information comes from

Our list of known tools is public, and it gets better every time someone points something out. Anyone can suggest a new tool or a correction, and each entry shows the date it was last looked over, so you can see we're keeping on top of it.

Getting in touch

For questions about the scanner or the list of tools, the best place is the public issue tracker. If you've found a security problem, please use private reporting instead, so we can fix it before anyone else hears about it. And thank you, genuinely. People who report problems are the best people.
